Hanabi

If there’s a fireworks display, it means there’s a celebration, most obvious of them all is the New Year Celebration. Fireworks display never ceases to amaze spectators, and it is continually improving.

Back in the Philippines, welcoming New Year will never be complete without fireworks. I am not talking about ‘grand’ fireworks display but just simple ones, among them is the fountain. You can light it up on the road or street as the clock strike midnight. Perhaps, another entry is for firecrackers which are equally popular as fireworks too.

If there’s a place of continuous fireworks display, I would like to stay there. It will keep me young and worry-free, a fantasy as you may say but it’s free to dream after all.

But in Japan, fireworks display signals the beginning of summer. To some, it’s means holiday. But to unfortunate ones like me, it’s still working time.

During the summer in Japan fireworks festivals are held nearly everyday someplace in the country, in total numbering more than 200 during the month of August. The festivals consist of large fireworks shows, the largest of which use between 100,000 and 120,000 rounds and can attract more than 800,000 spectators. More here

The photo above was taken last Saturday. We went to a friend’s house and positioned ourselves at the roof deck to have a better view of the colorful displays. Aside from visual feast, sea of food and drinks flooded the venue. It’s always good to meet old and new friends. It was my first time to take firework shots and I never thought that it can be very challenging. It will test your patience, your reflexes and yeah, did I just say patience? After scanning through the photos I’ve taken, I comforted myself and utter, there’s always next time.

Again, thanks everyone for this photo opportunity. And to all who gave photography tips on how to capture the radiance of fireworks, thank you very much. I hope I won’t forget it any time soon. I can now say that we are all certified photography addicts.

Just take lots of photos, and don’t delete them even if you find some of your pictures unsatisfying. Tomorrow is another day. Just give it a refreshed look.

  2. Beautiful photo! I remember "sparklers", those wonderful fireworks held in my childish hand, a thin wire that fountained at its end into a shower of stars. Dangerous, I'm sure, but worth it for the sense of magic. But fireworks are always magic, aren't they?
