Lola

grandma

a human hammock
unlimited sways of love
mother, grandmother

And now you are a certified Lola* at 76! This is your moment, spotlight is yours!

I think one of the best gifts you have received during your diamond year is your grandson. I know you've been waiting for one for a long time and that having him last year made you feel like 25 again.

I can still remember how brokenhearted you were with the loss of your first grandchild two years ago. How abruptly the excitement, laughter turned into silence.

Fast forward 2012. Being a nurse, you constantly give advices to my brother and his wife about parenthood, tips on how to raise a child, immunization, etc. You always try, no matter how hard it is, to take care of your grandson. Do you remember the time when you stumbled while carrying him? You still managed to protect him and it was you who were hurt? At 75, everyone was worried about you. You just gave us a "hey-I'm-fine" smile.

As you turn a year older, 76, I wish you good health more than anything else and that your arms won't get weak as your future grandchildren will be needing the warmth of your embrace. I can only hope though that I won't be hearing from my brother that you stumble, fall again. If that will happen again, I will book the next flight back to the Philippines and scold you. Just kidding of course.

I love you 'Ma.

Halong Pirmi.

PS
*Lola is the Filipino term for Grandmother

  5. that was a very nice thing to do. So often we take our loved ones for granted and assume they know but that is not always true. You have made a very lovely lady walk on air. My hat is off to you...

  6. One of the most rewarding sensations there is, is to hold one of your children's first child when you realise there is part of you in them going on.

  12. Very well done. A touching tribute to the love between grandmother and grandchild. I was also prompted by such emotion and wrote a letter to my granddaughter Lily http://a-mus-ing.blogspot.ca/2013/03/unlimited-for-my-granddaugther-lily.html
