Crystals

Aside from the matsuri, Japan has hundreds of exhibits too during summer. One of the exhibits that caught my interest was DMM Planets Arts by teamLab. It is currently being held in Odaiba from July 16 to August 31 2016 [10 am – 10 pm]. The event is located just a few steps away from the Diver City [Gundam]. It costs 2,000 yen and an additional of 1,500 yen for priority ticket, in case you are too lazy to be in queue for more than 30 minutes. You can get a 500 yen discount for online reservation.

Aquarium

An art exhibit is currently being held in Tokyo until September 12, 2015. It is one of a kind since it mainly features aquariums coupled with lights, producing a spectacular visual treat. Of course, an aquarium would not make any sense without the kingyo or goldfishes. The exhibition have a solid following since its conceptualization in 2011. I only heard about it this year though. How I wish my brother was here as he loves fishes more than I do.

Bayanihan

Last year’s Bayanihan Photo Exhibit, a showcase of photographs from Filipino photographers in Japan, was a success. Since then, a second part was highly anticipated. However, planning for the second salvo was not an easy task. It would take numerous pairs of hands to start the ball rolling. And true to the concept of Bayanihan, more or less twenty hands joined forces in taking the lead to make this event possible. It took almost a year and half since the last exhibit but everything’s now falling into right places. Mark your calendars, and expect to be spellbound by the array of photos from August 11-15, 2010 at Kawasaki Art Garden, Kawasaki-Ekimae Tower River Bank 3rd Floor (same venue of last year’s).

By the way, what is bayanihan? For the curious minds,

Bayanihan (pronounced [bajɐˈnɪhan]) is a Filipino term taken from the word bayan, referring to a nation, town or community. The whole termbayanihan refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective. more here

From the very minute 2nd Bayanihan Photo Exhibit opened the invitation for the submission of entries, there was an outpour of positive replies and support from photographers in Japan and Philippines especially after informing the fact that this exhibit is not only to merely parade their photos but, in one way of another, to be an instrument in helping various charities. Other than the photographers, some offered pledges to realize the group’s objective. This year, photos will be on sale and part of the proceeds will be donated to the chosen charity. At least 100 photos of Philippines as well as Japan will be displayed in A3 sizes.

A visit to the exhibit would mean a visual travel to two countries, visa-less, and with the photos as your tourist guide. And as stated above, beyond these photo displays is the intention of the group to help various charitable institution.

PS

Personally, I wish that this exhibit will be as successful as the first one. In that way, we can look forward to Year 3 and can continue to help. Positive thoughts until the closing date :-)

Success

Spent my weekend at Kawasaki, Yokohama, Japan and joined my fellow kababayans in celebrating the the success of Bayanihan : A Photo Exhibit. A rare event that unmasked the persons behind online usernames at Timog Forum. See, we do really exist.

To the minds behind this exhibit, my respect and admiration to all of you. I know its so hard to organize this huge event but you managed to pull it through with flying colors and frames. Haha!
Shall we say then, looking forward to the next photo showcase!

The masterpieces posted on the walls served as inspiration not only to me but perhaps to all others who were awestruck by its diversity and allure. Keep on shooting and sharing everyone!

Meeting old friends as well as new ones made my stay in Kawasaki more momentous. Those are that you just cant allow to miss. From never ending introduce-yourself to photo sessions to dancing and singing showdowns, you would wish that particular part won't end. (From one cliché to another cliché, lol).

As I am running out of words, allow me share a glimpse of the what had transpired during those days.

Again, congratulations to all of us.

Showcase

In two weeks time, a group of Filipino photo enthusiasts is about to showcase their masterpieces in Kawasaki, Yokohama, Japan. The conceptualization of this project started at Timog Forum as early as June 2008. The organizing committee had spent and faced sleepless nights, changing seasons, arguments and discussions but those didn’t dishearten their drive in making this exhibit a success. From 26th to 29th of March, photographs will be displayed at Art Garden Kawaski, 3rd floor, River K Building, Kawasaki, Japan. Admission is free.

“Japan in the Eyes of the Filipinos and Philippine Images” is the main theme. Photos to be showcased are derived from it. Expect diversity of photos flashing before your eyes, as it will be a visual feast for all the visitors.

Quoting this from the main thread :

Shiny afternoons of Summer
Gold and red leaves of Fall
Powdery snows of Winter
Rebirth of hopes that Spring beckons

Through the lenses of our fellow kababayans
Fall in love, yet again, with the beauty of Japan
And indulge yourself to some reminiscing
As you view portraits of our motherland

Invoke the spirit of 'bayanihan'

Let's celebrate together the culmination of a common goal..

This exhibit will also serve as a venue for meeting other Filipinos in Japan, to establish and develop camaraderie among Pinoys in Japan. Lets be proud of our culture and heritage.

We may be in a foreign land, but we are still and will always be Pinoy!

Exhibit

photographer

After two years, Flickr Philippines will showcase once again photographs taken by Filipino amateur and professional photographers through a photo exhibit. I was able to join their 2nd exhibit, Ikalawang Banat at Greenhills before. And this time, I am still one of the participants. Keep on trying ‘mai.

In cooperation with Yahoo SouthEast Asia, this year’s theme is Ikatlong Banat Na ‘To (Flickristas shoot Eight). From the group’s site

The number “8” is considered a perfectly balanced symbol. When laid sideways, it turns into the infinity sign. Its meaning to different cultures is just that—infinite. It can represent prosperity or wealth, but some also perceive it as an unlucky number. It means resurrection for others and destruction for some. Eight represents enlightenment, perfection, a day of rest or rock-and-rollin’ love.

This August 8, 2008 (08.08.08), let us explore the infinite meaning of the number 8 as Flickr Group Philippines, invites the Filipino Flickristas to 88 on 08.08.08.

Hobbyists and professionals alike who are members of the Flickr Group Philipines are called to show interpretations of the number “8”. The first 88 pictures to be posted automatically become part of a photo exhibit on Sept. 15-21*. Out of the 88 photos, eight will be adjudged winners. Great prizes and Flickr pro accounts are up for grabs!

After months of brainstorming from the organizers, the exhibit will be held this October 15-18, 2008 at Trinoma Mall, Cinema Lobby, Level 4 and the awarding ceremony will be on October 18, 2008 at exactly 6 pm.

To Flickr Group Philippines, good luck and congratulations! A big thank you as well to all the sponsors of this event. Cheers to all!

To all my friends in the Philippines , if you have the time, please visit the said venue and support this exhibit. (Well, I couldn't be there, but my picture will, hehe).

Keep on shooting Flickristas!
